October 2009 | The Brink's Journal | Page 3 Message from the Chairman As the oldest and largest secure logistics company, Brink's is the market leader in the world. Although we are a U. S.- based company, about two thirds of our business is now outside the United States. Whether it's our traditional cash in transit ( CIT) business or intuitive CompuSafe Service, we follow our customers into emerging markets to ensure a complete line of services is available to them. Our global market share continues to grow as we focus on our core- plus strategy. We understand that the U. S. and European markets have matured, whereas other countries have catapulted directly to needing solutions for their cash- intensive societies. Cash is our business, and customers know Brink's efficiently manages the cash cycle. Core Services Brink's has served CIT customers since 1859 with secure transportation of valuables. CIT and ATM services are the backbone of what we do for our customers around the globe, and account for a large percent of our revenue. Our success has been driven by a combination of rigorous security practices, high- quality customer service, risk management expertise and logistics expertise. Additionally, we manage nearly 81,000 ATM units worldwide and provide cash replenishment, monitoring and forecasting capabilities, deposit pick- up and processing services. Advanced online tools deliver consolidated electronic reports for simplified reconciliation for our customers. In today's business, it's mandatory for us to gather information and provide the customer visibility throughout the cash cycle. Value- added services Our core services, combined with our brand and global infrastructure, provide a substantial platform from which we offer additional value- added services. With a presence spanning approximately 120 countries, Brink's Global Services provide secure long- distance logistics for valuables including diamonds, jewelry, precious metals, securities, currency, high- tech devices, electronics and pharmaceuticals. From the point- of- sale through transport, vaulting, bank deposit and related credit, Brink's cash logistics services include money processing and cash management. Deployment and servicing of CompuSafes and safe- related devices, Virtual Vault, and check imaging services are other value-added solutions we offer our customers. Security Services Our Security Services, which includes security and guarding, account for a minimal portion of the bottom line. The protection of airports, offices, warehouses, stores and public venues with electronic surveillance, access control, and fire prevention ( with highly- trained patrolling personnel) is becoming necessary in today's turbulent world. Mainly offered in the European market, Brink's security officers are typically stationed at customer sites, and responsibilities include detecting and deterring specific threats. Our Unique Offering It's been said time and time again, our people, trust and innovation are what set us apart from the competition. When coupled with sophisticated products and services, we now appeal to a broader customer base. I look forward to the future and further development of our offerings. Michael T. Dan President, Chairman and CEO of The Brink's Company
