TBJ: Brink's Russia became operational at the beginning of 2009. How did this come about? HZ: Brink's has been reviewing its options in Russia for several years. Now that the deal is final, Brink's will provide a variety of services to our customers: domestic and international global services, Cash in Transit ( CIT), ATM, security services, customs brokerage and money processing, and airport security handling in cooperation with our partners. TBJ: BGS has been in Russia for about 10 years. How did this evolve into the acquisition of a Russian company? HZ: In 1995, Brink's Global Services opened a representative office in Moscow to establish relationships with local customers and service providers. At the same time, BGS extended its global network reach to this vital and developing market. As the Russian market matured, it became clear that Brink's needed to further expand its presence. First, an intimate partnership was established with a local leading secure logistics company and freight forwarder. This partnership has transformed into a Brink's participation and confirms our long- term commitment to servicing our customers in Russia. TBJ: How is the Brink's brand perceived by Russian customers? HZ: Brink's is perceived as a strong, reliable and global brand. TBJ: What is the background of the secure logistics industry in Russia? HZ: The majority of the secure logistics business remains in- house, however a small portion is outsourced and controlled by a subsidiary of a local bank. Today, financial institutions contemplate outsourcing their secure logistics more and more. This trend creates new opportunities for Brink's. In addition, cash distribution is not specifically limited to Moscow. There is a genuine need to distribute cash in the regional centers of this big country. TBJ: How does Brink's differ from our competitors in Russia? HZ: Brink's has strong brand recognition and is the only company that offers a vast array of services, along with the financial stability, know- how and technology, to support Russia's extensive and complex market. TBJ: What are some interesting facts about Russia when dealing with business partners and customers? HZ: Based on mutual business support, collaboration, and allocation of office space and IT links, we've established a close- knit relationship with our local business partners. Most Russian customers are based in Moscow, but require services across the country. This is very challenging when building an extensive network in a country that has 10 time zones and borders the European Union to the west, China to the south and the USA to the northeast. Certainly not an easy task, but one that can be accomplished. TBJ: What tools will you use to let customers know we are offering more products and services in Russia? HZ: The new Brink's Russia Web site is under construction and local Brink's management is planning to visit all the major customers personally to review new service offerings. Also, Brink's Russia is looking to organize a grand opening reception in 2009, combining this special occasion with the celebration of the Brink's 150th Anniversary. continued on page 10 April 2009 | The Brink's Journal | Page 9 Feature Story | Brink's Expands into Russia TBJ: What are some of the specific security risks in Russia? HZ: Russia has the same security risks as any other country in the world. Our responsibility is to implement the Brink's standard security procedures and minimize the risks for our crews and all the other employees. This is a top priority for local management. TBJ: How do you predict the Russian operation will fair? Ho much growth do you anticipate with this operation? HZ: We are starting with a fairly small operation for such a big country, but we do expect significant revenue growth. Brink's is planning to make the necessary investments in this new operation to become a market- leader in secure logistics in Russia. TBJ: Where will the Brink's facilities be located? HZ: The Brink's headquarters is strategically located in Moscow, in the Almazni Mir building which means " Diamond World", in North Moscow. Brink's has 45 trucks, 280 employees and 10 facilities and plans to expand the operation by end of 2009. Further expansion of the cash logistics business will certainly require more locations in Moscow, as the Russian capital is big and the traffic is very heavy. Brink's has other existing facilities already in major Russian cities. These facilities will allow Brink's to service our customers on a regional level and support our domestic expansion. continued from page 9 Page 10 Feature Story | Brink's Expands into Russia |
